Afghan Observations

The situation in Afghanistan is out of control.  The United States Government (USG) is engaged in a conflict that cannot be “won” and is already “lost”.  We must reexamine the facts and find a different solution to the problem, since imperialism is the root cause of the fire, it seems continuing such policy is not wise.

Simple facts, rarely discussed yet indisputable, expose the errors in a policy labeled the “War in Afghanistan”;

  • The people of Afghanistan are Muslims, an overwhelming majority are Sunni Muslim.
  • The majority of the NATO forces in Afghanistan are Christians.
  • Afghanistan is a desperately poor country.
  • Afghanistan cannot feed itself
  • Afghanistan is the largest grower of poppies in the world, thereby making Afghanistan the largest source of black market Opium in the world, so while they cannot feed the people; there is enough opium in country to kill them all.
  • Muslims are forbidden in the use of opium
  • The border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Durand Line, was drawn by the British in 1893 in order to protect the British Raj against the Russians, it was to expire 100 years after signing.
  • Pakistan was formed in 1947 after the fall of the British Raj as a Muslim homeland
  • Foreigners are despised in all parts of Afghanistan and have many, many times been brutally massacred, entire British armies have been slaughtered in Afghanistan.
  • The present Afghan government would not exist if not for aid from foreign governments and agencies.
  • The Soviet Union failed to pacify Afghanistan and with drew in defeat.  The USSR had some different parameters than current forces:
    • The Soviet Union shared a common border with Afghanistan yet struggled with supply
    • The Soviet Union had 118,000+ troops in Afghanistan at the height of occupation, current NATO forces are 67,000+
    • The Soviet Union soldiers operated under a different set of ” rules of engagement” than the NATO soldiers.
    • Given these limitations NATO forces still think they will “win” where the USSR could and did not.
  • The USG supported the Muhajadeen movement in its fight against Soviet Afghanistan
  • The USG dropped support following the withdraw of Soviet forces resulting in a second Great Game in Afghanistan.
  • The infrastructure of Afghanistan is destroyed due to years of war.
  • The wounds of the civil war cut very deep and caused irreparable damage for generations to come.
  • The Pashtun (Taliban), the Tajiks (Masoud) and the Hazara (Shia) caused more damage to Afghanistan and their “people” than the Soviet invasion did.

These are just a few observations, there are many more.
