What the “War Log” documents show are numerous violations of international law, there can be no question in that regard. But international law is no issue, the USG only honors international law when it fits its interest, a fact confirmed many times over by the any credible history book. Law can be defined many ways but law in practice is the what is deemed “acceptable” by the powerful.
Does anyone care? Is anyone paying attention? Appears not. Implied acceptation of crime by a society does not make it correct. Open arrogance of disregard for international laws is the accepted norm of the USG in 2010.
“While I’m concerned about the disclosure of sensitive information from the battlefield that could potentially jeopardize individuals or operations, the fact is these documents don’t reveal any issues that haven’t already informed our public debate on Afghanistan.”-Obama
The “issues” are that NATO actions are a war crime that is if one cares about such concepts as international law and the future of civilization. The American public should be aware of these crimes being done in their name, they are in every newspaper;on every newscast, it takes a real effort to not see them. Yet there is no open discussion of the apparent and obvious problem. It is taken for granted that the USA has the right to invoke its will on any that can not defend themselves.
So the question is: “Do the War Logs expose war crimes?”; well of course they do; the entire affair is in direct violation of international law. Hegemony has been the basis of American expansion and foreign policy since day one, the “mighty and just” are not concerned with such trivial concepts as international law. Either Americans don’t care or they don’t understand, you decide.
